do you suggest I do while in the hospital for all that time to keep myself busy/distracted from any pain/discomfort I may be feeling? It's my first time and I really had planned on waiting until the LAST POSSIBLE MOMENT to go into the hospital after labor began but since I'm getting induced I will not have this luxury...Please give me ideas

take a laptop, or your favorite book, maybe a portable dvd player and some of your favorite movies, this might keep you busy for a while

pain management tips if you do not plan to get an epidural

walk around
get in and out of a bath/shower
find a chairs and sit down and stand up
use a birthing ball
when you have to lay down - change positions often
rock your hips from side to side and front to back
get your partner to give you back, neck and shoulder massages

have a focal point picture or an object
dim the lights
play calm music
use breathing techniques

If you are getting an epidural bring movies, books, puzzles, cards, magazines book anything you and your partner can do to pass the time

If you get an epidural being induced can take longer to go through the motions average of 16-30 hours for labor, without an epidural time is roughly 6-16 hours

Good luck

I was induced (with cervadil and pitocin) and did it natural (without pain meds), so don't let anyone scare you. My labor lasted for 15.5 hours...including pushing. What I did to pass the time was: I slept in the beginning, because you really need your energy when labor picks up! As the labor pains were getting more significant, I rolled on a birthing ball. When they were to the point that the birthing ball didn't work, I stood up and swayed with my husband supporting me from behind during each contraction. I must say that standing up made the contractions much more tolerable, even during transition. Make sure you empty your bladder often...that helps with the labor pains too. You can do it! Just trust in your body to do everything it is suppose to do! Good luck!

Good luck. Induced labor was very unpleasant for me and ended in an emergency c-section, but I'm sure you won't have the same experience, most women do just fine. I made it 12 hours before getting an epidural. I attempted to sleep most of the day. Listening to music is good, watching TV if they'll let you, you can also try walking around some. I wasn't allowed to since I had high blood pressure. Good luck again, I wish you well.

I was induced though I hadn't wanted it after being a week and a half past my due date I was ready. First twelve hours weren't bad and didn't feel any of the contractions. Once my water broke it was on, one contraction after another. I asked for a shot another hour later I was fed up and gave into the epidural. Good thing too, because it was another 15 hours before I was allowed to push. I dozed in and out for those last 15 hours. My worst thing was that I was starving and wanted to eat. So daddy to be brought a banana and sat it on the table within my view....nothing more inspiring than food to a laboring starving woman.

I would suggest T.V or movies...and have someone there to talk to the whole time. That's all I really wanted to do when they induced me was talk to my fiance, but mine only lasted 5 hours. So, I would say do something that will really help relax you and get your mind off the pain.

Just curious why are they inducing? If you are planning on going all natural (no meds) be aware that induction can be very painful. But I hear induction can be either a very slow or very fast processes depending on if your body is ready for delivory. I would take some DVD's, a good book, perhaps some magazines. Good luck.
