20+ years? Are you kidding? Try 5,000 years. They've been at war with each other throughout recorded history. And you really think that an unstable democracy in Iraq is going to solve the problem? Not likely. The best thing we could do is rid the middle east of religion.

Actually, the killing has been going on for about 1200 years.
And isn't likely to stop any time soon, whether we stay or go. So, the question is, what do we have to gain from staying, other than more collateral damage and more lost US lives?
And Islam recognizes Judaism and Christianity as sibling religions -- all being religions that believe in the God of Abraham -- and specifically excluding them from the category of "infidels" (non-believers).
The few fanatics that include Judaism and Christianity among the hated also include any opposing Muslims sect as well -- making it less a matter of one religion against the others and more about their tiny specific interpretation against anyone else in the entire world.

I don't think any do and I am pretty sure noone has said so.
Why do Republicans continue to lie about liberal motives? Are they so bereft of any morally justifiable position on this that they can only counter a strawman and not a real argument?
The US having a neo-colonial stranglehold on Iraq indefinitely is not going to allow the situation there or elsewhere to improve. Bush claimed the objective was regime change - not occupation. It is our responsibility to establish a working government in Iraq and upon doing so withdraw.
This is what most liberals are calling for - and want a defined plan, inclusive of a time line - that will get us there.

Bush and the Blind sheep--- no it's not a new band.
bush and his sheeple republicans simply care about Iraq more than America. Why else would bush move the military to Irq then plan something catastrophic to enact marshal law in America?

Immediate gratification through troop withdrawal and total defeat seems to be their objective, and to hell with any consequences or the effects of once again throwing the people who have trusted and supported us under the bus.
Sad, eh?

Nope.
As long as there's a definitive defeat that they can harp on to the American people they don't really think about the consequences for Iraq.
They'll abandon those folks the way we abandoned what was left of South Vietnam. Turn off the tap, look the other way.

Yep, it's in Liberal Fairy Tales. I think it ends like "And once the evil Bush was made to withdraw the troops, the terrorists and America got along. The End".
