i've heard people say "thats a knee" or " there goes his elbow across my belly" or "shes pushing her butt up against the front". mine moves constantly.......i call him "lumpy" because he seems to always be curled up in one spot but occassionaly i will feel something roll across my tummy. i can't tell what it is. and when he "kicks" (only description i can use) i don't know if thats a punch or an actual kick with his foot or a knee or his butt. can anyone really tell what it is thats flipping around? i'm 34 weeks, is it something that becomes more identifiable in a few weeks?

Have you had an ultra sound? Do you know how the baby is positioned? At 34 weeks my daughter was head down I knew when she turned at that point I could tell what was what as sometimes her knee would come up and rub the left side of my belly. And oddly when people asked if they could touch my tummy they always went for where her butt was. I was more solid on one side and hardly ever felt any small movements only big bumps as it was her back and butt sticking out on that side.

To be honest with you, I believe most women say those things just to appease to themselves. That's like me saying, "Oh, baby loves the color orange." and the baby can't even see colors, much less have any cognitive knowledge as to what colors are. If you feel movement constantly, but seemingly no change in the baby's position, chances are it is either an arm or a leg that you are feeling. Feeling heavy pressure against the front inner portion of your belly is a pretty good sign of a butt, head, or even a back. As you poke and prod, you will get a better idea by feeling the shape of the body part. Unless these women have these amazing superpowers where they just know what the baby is doing in utero at all times, it's just blab. Good luck.

You cant really every tell whats what, its just an assumtion, or an educated guess made on the last ultrasound.

They move around in there all the time, its hard to tell whats what. Although, I could tell the difference between his butt and his other limbs, just by thickness. And later, one I knew he was engaged in the pelvis, I knew what was feet (they were under my ribs) and what was elbows, (along my lower belly).

You can't tell. People just assume.
