i had to pick up a few things at wal-mart on september 3,2007 so i wrote a check for 29.77.i had the money in my account but wachovia took it by mistake and told me that i would have to wait until they could find out why it was taken to get my money back.the check i wrote to wal-mart was returned i was told.so then walmart represented the check again and i was told by wachovia that the bank paid it and that i would have to pay the bank back what they paid to walmart.so today i look on my online account and notice that i had 257.00 in overdraft fees.i paid the 257.00 thinking that the walmart check would be cleared.comes to find out it didn't clear,so i called wachovia and they told my the check was sent back to walmart.man was i mad.when i explained that i was told that it would be paid if i pay my fees but that didn't happen.now i'm worried because i don't know how to get in touch with walmart to see if i can pay them the money that wachovia got me for.can someone tell me how to get..

stop going through them....i had problems with them too, and what I did was I checked my balance and it said I had a certain amount of money in my account, so then I went and purchased something that was cheaper than what money was in my account. Latter i get this thing in the mail saying I went over draft. I was like what!!!!!! They tried to charge me 50 bucks. I git it settled becaue they were the ones who screwed up in the first place. Try another bank.

IF what you say in your question is accurate AND you did not leave out any important information, the check to Wal-mart DID clear the second time. Assuming the original overdraft resulted from a BANK error, and not an error on your part, the bank WILL waive ALL fees caused by the error and should pay the returned check fee charged by Wal-mart. You will have to talk to a manager at the bank to show the fees were caused by the bank's error.

257 dollars in overdraft fees? That's insane! I had a similar problem when I was in college with BB&T.

What happens when you write a check is that the company places a hold on your account for 90% of the entire amount of the purchase. Then, the company will call for the 100% of the funds to be transfered from your account to theirs. Sometimes, when this happens, your account will become negative if the company does not take off the 90% hold before drafting out the entire purchase.

I would talk to your bank to see what happens....chances are they might be able to refund some, if not all, of your overdraft fees. I would ask to speak to the branch manager and explain your frustrations. ASK for the refund or they won't give it to you.

Good luck.

When the bank makes a mistake like that it is the bank's responsibility to sort it out and pay you back any funds owing.

The best thing to do is to go to your State's official URL. It will have a section on banking and consumer protection. Most State's banking and insurance bureaus also deal with the issue on your behalf. Their service is free.
