Because it has been the most creative rock music for over a decade.
Not just the classic bands like Manà, Enanitos Verdes or El Tri, but innovators like Café Tacuba, Aterciopelados, Julieta Venegas, Los Rabanes, Ozomatli, Bersuit, Juanes, Jaguares and so many others.
The genre still seems wide open as talented musicians find ways to fuse the many Latin musical forms with rock.
Oh, and producer Gustavo Santaolalla is a genius.

Having someone explain (satisfactorily) why they like a particular thing is usually pointless - either you like it or you don't and seldom does anyone sway you.
