Where I live, we have a lot of numbered streets (i.e.; 45th Avenue, 67th Place, etc.) and then a lot of streets named after presidents or states...(i.e.; Washington, Delaware, etc.)

How about Lebanon??

All streets have numbers, as well as buildings. But they are better known by names of owners (for the buildings) and historical events or famous people for the streets/avenues.
For instance, you have the Independence Avenue, President Elias Sarkis Avenue, President Elias Hraoui Avenue, Avenue Goraud, Avenue Foch, Australia Street, Allemby Street, Maurice Barres Street, Madam Curie Street, etc...
I hope this clears up the picture for you.

Street names don't seem to have the same degree of importance as in the West...

Some I came across were Port Saiid Street , el Hamra Street , Custom Street etc etc as well as a lot using the French system of Rue ....

i don't dislike Rafik Hariri, yet I like it to be called Beirut international airport..i think of earlier they adjust any names, the government ought to sparkling the garbage around the airport.this is a shame as a Lebanese myself,as quickly as I come again to pass to,I see those illegally equipped homes and tin homes or besides the fact that they're around the airport.that's what the vacationers sees whilst they 1st pass to our ideal usa...If only i ought to run the country for a term,i'm going to turn it into paradise,in assessment to the previous politicians that is going and begs for money from Saudi and placed ninety% of the money of their financial business enterprise account.

usually most streets in Lebanon are named after dead people (either dead in explosions or dead presidents or dead prime ministers)...no street numbers here...and the funny thing is that they could name the same street over and over many times (cuz we do have a lot of martyrs these days...lol)

anyway...I dunno what the name of the street I live on is...he he he

BTW Hopeless...Rafic Hariri was never a Lebanese president, he was a Prime minister for a while
