As I am a native of Randolph, Vermont, you've tweaked my interest--mainly because of my fascination with American Indian history.

I typed in "Vermont Indian Massacres" in an Internet access point and came up with several topics for your interest. Under the heading of "Indian Company of 1778" the topic reveals information about the Stockbridge Indian Massacre of 31 August 1778.

The topics are long to read, but informative.

I'm unusure where Pownal is located in reference to Randolph, a small town in the center of the state.
