56=17p-29
56+29=17p-29+29[adding 29 to both sides]
85=17p
85/17=17p/17 [dividing both sides by 17]
5=p
p=5 ans

add 29 toboth sides so u get 85=17p
now divide both sides by 17 and that leaves p equalling 85 divided by 17 which is 5 so p=5

Add 29 to both sides of the equation:

85 = 17 p

Divide by 17 on both sides of the equation:

5 = p

Use symmetric property of equality:

p = 5

You want to combine like terms - you want to get terms with p on one side and everything else on the other side.

Your first step is to add 29 to both sides. (We are adding here to cancel out the negative in front of the 29.)

85 = 17p

Now you want to get rid of the 17 in front of the p. Since this is multiplied, you want to divide both sides by 17.

5 = p

or p = 5
