I have a chance to own a house and some small property way up state in PA but moving there will mean my daughter will have to leave her friends. The schools are better where we are going and we can get back to natural things like making our own milk butter and icecream and I can start a small business like a dollar store or such but it will also mean being somewhat isolated as it is a very small town and far form everything. I don't know what to do.

I hope that in this opportunity, you have some friends or other relatives there to help you get started. This would be a big venture to go at alone. I can undestand your hesitation about your daughter having to leave friends, etc. but you have to sit down and discuss these options with her.

Have you been to the site yet? Do you know what the area looks like? Schools? Take a vacation with your daughter and look around - investigate the idea thoroughly and completely before you make your final decision. You might even want to consider having someone live there and get it rolling while you and your daughter put things to right where you live presently. I wish you the best. Making a move with a child is a big decision. I moved from Los Angeles to a southern town, but my child was only one and didn't have any input. I knew that the decision was going to be better for both of us.

People often do things because they think their family will be better off in the long run. Is your daughter, say high school age, where it will be harder to make friends?

How far away from her friends?
How does your daughter feel?
