if you charge per hour you become too expensive and customers will opt for a service center because you become expensive and it'll be much safe and cheaper. Your best bet as a start is to charge a specific fee lets say $10 for any general repair work. Then when you assess the the computers problem you add $2 more for every extra effort. or deduct $5 for every less effort or if the piece being replace is expensive. Be honest.. Don't think fast money yet. That'll destroy your reputation and your business goes down the drain. From here you develop a reputation (it takes months) soon people will know you as the man. Once that happens you gradually increase your initial fee by adding a dollar to that every 3 to 6 months (much less obvious) until you reach $15. Build more of a reputation and the circle goes on and on. The object is to make money at an affordable price by a steady flow of customers. If people know you and like you price and service they'll refer every one to you and you'll be on your way.

There are several programs that are good and not too complicated. Microsoft Works is good and if you Have Microsoft Office, try Publisher. My daughter uses this one for professional two fold flyers.
