You can set it up as a quadratic equation in 2 unknowns:
Let L represent the larger part, & S the smaller. Then:
L + S = 150
4L - 5S = 60
Solve #1 for L:
L = 150 - S
Substitute in #2:
4(150 - S) - 5S = 60
Simplify:
600 - 4S - 5S = 60
540 = 9S
S = 60
Substitue in #1
L + 60 = 150
L = 150 - 60 = 90

Let x = larger part, and (150 - x) be smaller part.

exceeds means is more than which is add. So

4x = 5(150-x) + 60

Thats easy, you use your functional tables and enter the consign that belongs to the tangent, and then muliply by the coefficient of quandrant that equals the performing product dividided by the answer you get from the simple equation. Wait.......another student needs my help, i'll get back to you on this simple problem after I help another student and attend the Deans meeting at the University of Higher Learning (higher math department).

divide 150. uhh. hold on....... x is the larger #, y is the smaller...

x + y = 150
4x>5y-60
hmm.. dunno wut to do from there...
okay, lets try, 70 and 80
so 80 is y and 70 is x 70+80+150
4(70)>5(80)-60
280>400-60
280>340....nope 60 off.
okay, x and y have to be like only a couple #'s apart for this to work....

lets try 79 and 71
4(71)>5(79)-60
284>395-60
284>335 52 off

okay, try to make x and y really close together like 74 and 76 then it might work. good luck!!

x+y=150
4x=5y+60
x=(5/4)y+15
(5/4)y+15+y=150
(9/4)y=135
y=60
x=90
