What do you call the cover of a locket (jewelry)? please help asap?

I cant seem to find this anywhere...is there a name for the outside cover of a locket....please help

Would casing be a good term...i said the exterior of the locket in the story that i am writing, but i was told to find a term for the cover..

This is the sentence:
It was very elegant and had a tiny rose engraved on its exterior.
I need to replace the word exterior

I would just call it a 'pendant' which would refer to the jewelry piece as a whole.
