Me and my girlfriend are going to move in Saturday to an apartment... Its a long story, but we have the money for anything and everything we need. The landlord will give us the apartment at anytime when we decide to put down the deposits and stuff. What else do we need to pay for and stuff. BTW, this is in Miami, Florida.

You need to document how the apartment looks before you move your things in. You should take pictures of everything, have a list or repairs, i.e. carpet stains, sink damage, holes in the wall, and keep all of this so that when you move out the landlord cannot claim you damaged the property. Make sure you get everything in writing.... any specials deals like 1 month free rent or prorated rent. Before the move, the tenant has the most power to negotiate most things.

Get renters insurance!!!!!!!! It doesn't cost that much per month. You can get it from the same place you have your car insurance if they offer it. They usually do. Set up your utilities. Check it over before you move in and make sure everything is in working order. If it isn't write it down and get them to fix it. Make sure you pay your rent on time cause that could effect your credit.

Pack. Move. Find out what utilities are covered by the new landlord, and which you have to sign up for in your own name. Then call those utilities and get set up.

Get renters insurance immediately..this is so imparative in case of fire or theft. See if you can replace the locks with your own or if you can add security locks to the door. Get your driver's license and checks to state your new address. Contact important mailbox people of new address and leave it with the post office. Get registered to vote in your new area at your DMV. And do not forget to write down emergency numbers to have at your fingertips.
