Geomatic is correct

Quartz and feldspars are the two most common minerals on earth. Quartz and feldspars are silicates, made up of silica (SiO4 - one silicon atom and four oxygen atoms). According to Strahler (1977), silicon and oxygen make up 27.7 and 46.6 percent of the earth's crust respectively (for a total of 74.3 percent.

Silicon and Oxygen are the most abundant elements in the Earth's crust. What are feldspars and quartz made out of? Silicon and Oxygen.

***Naturalplastics: Your reasoning is sound but remember clays are silicate (Si and O) rocks as well. While the ocean floors or expansive and indeed basalt, the continents are much much much thicker, which is why quartz and feldspars account for 50% of the crust.

I would say false.

It's true that the 3 most common elements in the earth's crust are oxygen, silicon, and aluminum. (followed by iron, calcium, sodium, potassium, and magnesium). Quartz is a silicon oxide, and feldspar is generally potassium-aluminum-silicon-oxide.

Long story short, there's a lot more to the crust (basalt, and clay especially) than the feldspar/quartz igneous rocks.
