Yes, the Democratic party currently has a largely socialist agenda -- a change from either prior liberal agenda.

And yes, socialism is the little brother of communism -- communism requires absolute ownership of all property by the govt -- socialism allows for some private property ownership, but allows for heavy govt ownership of infrastructure and manufacturing, and heavy govt regulation of commerce.

Socialism *is* comunism. Marx himself used the words interchangeably and many socialists call themselves communmists and vice versa. The confusion arises when Lenin, Trotsky and co enter the scene and speak of socialism as a "transitional" stage to communism, which is just damned silly. For the record, neither socialism or communism have ever existed. All we have had/have now are countries which are state capitalist claiming to be socialist or communist.

Neither can you have "a socialist government". Socialism is about the administration of things (the production and distribution of the necessaries of life), not people. Socialism can not exist in isolation in one country; like capitalism it must be global. So banish forever the ideas of there ever beign a socialist government in the USA - any US government has to abide by the laws of capitalism.

Jeez, who asks these misguided questions? George Bush?

To your second question: No.

To your first question: "socialism" includes many very different political traditions. Some of the oldest come from the cooperative movement, and some from the labor movement. "socialist" economic models range from stateless cooperation (Kropotkin), to stateless free markets (Proudhon), to state-run industries (Bellamy), to state-regulated markets (Lange). "communism" describes several completely different traditions within socialism, including old cooperative experiments, two distinct senses within Marxism, and anarchocommunism. Adam Smith and Franklin Roosevelt (both "liberals") or Edmund Burke and Barry Goldwater (both "conservatives") have more in common with each other, politically, than Errico Malatesta and Vladimir Lenin (both "communists" - though one was anti-state pro-free-association and the other was Lenin).

In a communal system with shared property there will be less antagonism among its members whereas if everyone is continually fighting over individual ownership rights you are going to have worse problems (like firearms). However something that works in the USA may not work elsewhere and vice versa.

No to all of that BS. Socialism and communism are two entirely different systms. And Democrats in the US are neither--except in the minds of ingnorant neoconservatives who never read a political science textbook in their lives. Or a history book, either. Or they'd know better.

You don't even know what socialism is. You just think: "It's like Communism, so that's good enough for me."

And label Democrats as "Socialists".

and yes Democrats want that kind of tyranny here

so do some Republicans...both parties are secretly controlled by raging liberal hippies from the dark side

I believe the democrats tend to lean more towards government responsibility as opposed to personal responsibility. Our current president, however, has not vetoed one single spending bill. If i am wrong, please correct me.
