Universal suffrage is the right to vote to all people that are in the right age without discrimination of races, gender and whether you are poor or rich you have the right to express or you have the right to choose who the leader you want.

It is the only way that those elected can be truly representative of the population electing them -- absent the right of ever member of the citizenry to vote, the elected official will at best only be representative of the subset who voted for them.

Not that universal suffrage does not guarantee actual representation -- it just makes it possible.

The significance is supposed to be "one man, one vote",
meaning every qualified individual gets to vote, however
hidden behind this is the electoral college, which defeats the
purpose of that principle. None of the politicians will touch
the electoral college, the silence is deafening.
