Sometime the other answers to a question absolutely stun me more than the question asked. First, Iran is running out of oil. Estimates are exportable quantities will be gone by 2021. Because of that, Iran needs an alternative power source. Ergo, fixed nuclear power reactors. But, they are also using that energy source to produce weapons grade fissionable materials. So, we have to stop that because it is a threat to Israel and to the members of the Arab League. Iran is a lot of things. But, it isn't an Arab country. And the memory of the Arab world with respect to the reigns of Cyrus the Great and Xerxes is well-imbedded in their history and culture.
At best there will be major air strikes against all of Iran's nuclear facilities. The work group for such a mission has already been assembled. All of those involved are disciples and devotees of Air Force Colonel John "Mad John" Worden who developed the air strategy and air plan for Operation Desert Storm. There are enough air power assets in Iraq, Afghanistan, an island off the UAE and the island of Diego Garcia (plus seaborne air assets of the Fifth Fleet) to create a glass parking lot across most of Iran in three days. There will be no need to introduce ground troops to move to contact against Iranian troops because that force is ineffective and has not reconstituted since it was decimated during the Iran-Iraq War.
It would be advantageous to preface any bombing campaign with a leaflet operation calling on the Iranian people to carry out a "velvet revolution" and depose the mullahs and the current President of that country. But, the air campaign will work nicely.

Silly boy. "A 240 mm rocket was fired this month at the main U.S. headquarters base in Iraq, killing one person and wounding 11" was the same Iranian manufactured rocket that came very close to killing several of my friends.

No I don't want war with Iran. No, I don't think our self-congratulatory, fast food minded country has the guts for it. No, it won't happen. Though a couple of well placed bombs might be just what the doctor ordered, the US public, indeed, the anti-US world, is on such an anti-war swing the politicians won't stand for it.

This is a different story. Iran is under scrutiny from the rest of the world. Not just US interests. Even the ambassador from France, Koucher (An admireable diplomat whom I listened to the other night on CSPAN.) has said, though he doesn't believe that's the answer, we should be prepared for "the worst" with Iran. War. Preparing for it is not waging it, however.

Unlike Iraq, if we were to pick a fight, I can't think of a better one than Iran. They know we're tied up and unwilling, that's why they're acting up. They want to be seen as a stable alternate leader to the west. I for one am thankful there's more than just the US looking at them.

No bush administration is after Iran for the same reason they were after Iraq and afghanistan...oil.... Look at a map. Strange that the three countries that are the most "evil" all border one another in a row and would provide us some pretty sweet oil pipelines.

If another neo-con is elected we very well may go to war with Iran in the future. Presently however we've got our hands full enough with Iraq we can't afford another all out war at the moment. Potentially a bombing but that wouldn't do us any good at the moment.

I've seen a few news reports re a war on Iraq. It bodes ill. Could happen, though. You may want to read the article "10 Indications That the US is Planning Military Action Against Iran." Find it at pacificnews.org. You may/may not like the site, but the article is thought-provoking.

Britain nearly lost the war in the Falklands because of French made missiles but they did not go to war with them. Why should the US then go to war with Iran.

That's the excuse he will use.Kinda like the WMDs in Iraq. Then when it turns out theres no truth to the alligations,he will find another excuse. Just like icpooreman stated, theres only 1 reason why Bush wants to go to war with Iran

Iran
Liberation or OIL for short
