this was in my math book for my HW and i need to check it

20 pounds... half of 20 is 10 plus ten pounds= 20.

Therefore, the weighs 10 + 5 = 15 pounds.

1/2 w = 10

w = 20

20, 10 lbs + 1/2 of 20 ( or 10) =20 lbs

I see a lot of answers being 15, that won't work:

10 lbs + 1/2 of 15 = 17.5 not 15

15 pounds

5 + 5 = 10
10 pounds + 2/10 = 15

If x = the cat's weight, then

10 + .5x = x

10=.5x

x=20

cat weighs 20 pounds

10 pounds plus half of 20 = 20

if x is the weight of the cat then:

x = 10 +1/2x
x -1/2x = 10
1/2x =10
x =20

therefore 20 pounds

He can't weigh 10 pounds plus half of his weight. Either he weighs 10 pounds or not.
