So Washington Mutual has these comercials running right now that show a group of all white bankers, and this this black guy who is supposed to be a washington mutual employee.

The group of about 30 white are pompous, arogant, corrupt, stupid, and very elitist.

If comercials were run that portrayed a group of 30 blacks as uneducated, vulgar, violent, and generally undesirable they would be pulled the first day. Not to mention the out cry from the media.

I think they are hugely insulting, and that this goes beyond a double standard. Using a negative steriotype to gain customers based on their hatred of white people.

Completely tasteless.

Washington Mutual has no class whatsoever.

Was anyone else bothered by this?

You're missing the point entirely.
Those "bankers" don't understand the viewpoint of the guy who is in charge of them (he is, by the way, the same man who was featured prominently in Dell commercials during the past few years.)
He is trying to get them to accept concepts which they find strange, repulsive or downright non-profitable for a bank, like giving the account holders free checking, free bill pay, accounts with no monthly fees or overdraft charges, etc. In every case, the "bankers" are humiliated because they realize that the guy who "handles" them is correct, that account holders are deserving of these perks and more.
I like the ads and actually became a Washington Mutual customer in great part as a result of watching them. So stick that into your passbook, buster!!

No, because I haven't seen it. But every day I am bombarded by stereotyped presentations of women in the media--from mindless young blonds to women who are presented as illiterate dumps because they're past menopause.

This doesn't mean I don't sympathize with you. It means that the younger generation has been brought up to confuse stereotypes with truth.

What else, besides stereotypes, do Hollywood types have to work with?

To present people as they really are takes work, thought, and talent. You wont't find much of that these days.

You're way over the top here.

Lots of people either aspire to be or look like those 'white guys' you mention. They weren't doing anything to hurt anybody, either.

If a stereotype is harmless, it may be misguided but it certainly isn't racist. The WaMu board of directors probably looks (and acts) a lot like the naked guys in the commercial.

Lighten up, willya?

I never even considered the skin color of the actors. I still don't. Don't be petty, it shows insecurity within yourself! BTW, I am white.

I think the name "WaMu" is so assinine, I immediately stop listening when anything associated with it happens.
