A Stand-Alone computer is one of the now famous brand names you're hearing about.. Apple Macintosh
or for short the Mac

Why is it a stand alone?
because the owner of one is tied to Macintosh for everything, Repairs, Software, Accessories, you can't run any other operating system on a Mac. or you can't run OS/x system on another computer system (or so they think). They are made so that you can't install off the shelf hardware in them. and they are over priced, with a comparable PC system.
