i need step by step instructions on how to complete this equation by solving for j

14-1/5(j-10)=2/5(25+j)

the 1/5 and 2/5 are fractions

the answer is 10 i just need to know how to get that.

14 - (1/5)(j - 10) = (2/5)(25 + j)

14 - (1/5)j + 2 = 10 + (2/5)j

16 - 10 = (3/5)j

6 = (3/5)j

multiply both sides by (5/3)

6(5/3) = j

30/3 = j

j = 10

Use the distributive property:

14 - 1/5 * j + 1/5 * 10 = 2/5 * 25 + 2/5 * j

Do the multiplication:

14 - 1/5 * j + 2 = 10 + 2/5 * j

Combine like terms:

16 - 1/5 * j = 10 + 2/5 * j

Move variable to one side, constants to the other:

6 = 3/5 * j

Divide by 3/5 to isolate variable:

5/3 * 6 = j

j = 10

First, open the brackets by multiplying the number before the brackets with whatever numbers are in the brackets. After doing that, we get:
14 - j/5 + 10/5 = 50/5 + 2j/5

Please note that when opening the -1/5(j-10) bracket, the negative sign before 10 changes to positive since we are multiplying two negative numbers, which are -1/5 and -10

Now we can simplify the 10/5 and 50/5 fractions to get:

14 - j/5 +2 = 10 + 2j/5

Next we shall put all the "like terms" together on either side of the equal sign. So lets have all the "j" on the right of the eaqual sign and the the rest of the numbers to the left:

14 + 2 - 10 = 2j/5 + j/5

Please note that when a negative number crosses the equal sign it becomes positive, and vice versa.

Now we carry out addition and subtraction on either side of the equal sign to get:

6 = 3j/5

Multiply both sides by 5

30 = 3j

Divide both sides by 3

10 = j

Use the distributive property.
14 - 1/5 * j + 1/5 * 10 = 2/5 * 25 + 2/5 * j
Do the multiplication.
14 - 1/5 * j + 2 = 10 + 2/5 * j
Combine like terms.
16 - 1/5 * j = 10 + 2/5 * j
Move variable to one side, whole numbers to the other.
6 = 3/5 * j
Finally, divide by 3/5 to get the variable alone.
5/3 * 6 = j
j = 10

first multiply all the brackets out:

14 - j/5+ 2 = 10 + 2j/5

then put all the unknowns on one side and numbers on the other:

14 +2 -10 = 2j/5 +j/5

6 = 3j/5

then multiply both sides by 5

30 = 3j

divide by 3

j = 10 tada

14-1/5(j-10)=2/5(25+j)
14-1/5j+2=10+2/5j
14+2-10=2/5j+1/5j
6=3/5j
6*5=3j
30/3=j
j=10
