If you aren't having a period, are you not producing eggs, or are they just not being released, or what? I know this sounds like a 'tard is asking this but I'm serious. Is there like a sphinctor that keeps them in and that's not working? What's up?

Not necessarily. Up until menopause, most women ovulate regularly, releasing an egg into the fallopian tubes, toward the uterus. The fact that you miss a period usually does not have any bearing on ovulation.

Every month, your endocrine system produces a chemical cocktail that gets your ovaries to mature one ovum (egg) and release it at a specified time.
There is no mechanical means of releasing or stopping an egg...it's all dictated by hormones.

If you're not menstruating, there could be any number of causes, but just because you don't get a period does NOT necessarily mean that you're not ovulating.

What you need to do is go to your doctor and get a full physical (including pap and pelvic) and have a full blood workup done to determine whether or not your ovulating, and if you are why you're not menstruating (and if you're not, how to go about getting you to that point).

Best of luck.
