Im a gamer on a budget (900 bucks) and Im building a new rig for college. I was wondering whether I should go for the first set of CPU and GPU or the Second. both Systems will have 2 gb of RAM but the CPU and GPU combination have stagnated me.
Thanks a lot, Oh and something to note, I won't be upgrading to Vista till the beginning of 08.

I'll choose the second set up anytime then just overclock the processor a bit. It should then be unbeatable in benchmarks and actual games. Game performance (fps) is a lot more dependent on the GPU. Also, overclocking is safe if you provide adequate cooling and stay within stock voltages.

Go for the latter :) if you're building your rig you might be able to set your 4800+ @ faster speed than 6000+ while nothing can change Radeon 1950 into GeForce 8800.

Other thoughts: 4800+ is a decent processor and Radeon 1950 is a decent videocard. The former configuration is more general-purpose (for example if you encode video or do scientific research) while the latter is more gaming.

Go for the first one because it has a good GPU no quite as good as the second but the processor is where the first one takes the cake.

i'd go for AMD x2 6000+ HIS Radeon 1950

faster processor means everything, you can only maximize your video-card when playing games.
