Go to Control Panel, System, Device Manager. Do you see any yellow exclamation points(!)? If so, and one or more of them are related to your sound card, you need to re-install the drivers. I would recommend you download the latest drivers from the website of your computer or the one for you sound card. Then delete all the devices with yellow exclamation points, run the sound card update you downloaded and re-boot. Your sound card should be re-discovered.

try reinstalling your audio drivers. right click your My Computer icon on your desktop and select properties. go to the hardware tab and click device manager. look for the sound card, if you can't find it there, try removing and installing your sound card. and install the driver. but if you see a question mark or an exclamation point, you just have to reinstall the device driver.

hope that helps...

Try to go to the Device Manager (right click on my computer, properties, hardware, device manager) and check your sound card, it could be under the >> Sound, Video and game controllers << If it is there, try to re-install it again.
