Rip stop nylon is used.

F111 is one type

Zero Porosity rip stop is another. it's like F111 but covered in a silicon finish that does not allow air to flow through the fabric.

check out http://performancedesigns.com/ for one of the best parachute manufacturers in the world. I jump one of their Spectre canopies as my main parachute. There isn't a better reserve parachute on the market than the PD-R.
