This is basically the same team (minus the bus) that went to the SB a year ago. Big Ben was never healthy last year, this is how they are suppose to play. It is not a surprise.

Last year most of their problems can be attributed to a subpar Ben Rothlisberger. He had been in a motorcycle accident prior to the start of the season and spent most of the time in the gym trying to get physically able to play and not enough time in the "classroom" many games were lost on his interceptions alone while the defense still kept them competitive. If that wasn't enough he had an emergency appendectimy as well which really effected his game. As the season progressed he got better though and healthier.
They started 2-6 but their last 8 games they were 6-2. In all reality they were a good team last year with the exception of Ben. Now even though they lost Joey Porter, their team is fully healthy and at 100%.
My only confusion was why they didn't let Charlie Batch finish some of the games last year or fill in at least until Ben was healthy but they didn't and so they lost several games they shouldn't have. One big example was the Raiders...they outplayed the Raiders in every aspect of the game but a couple interceptions ran back for touchdowns cost them.

Ben got healthy, went to all the OTAs, watched film, he makes good decisions, we got Rossum who made the special teams decent, our head coach cares this year (loved Cowher and all, but he seemed to not really be into coaching last season) and the defense has always been pretty good. But we haven't played anyone yet, I'd like to see how we fair against a decent AFC team before making any judgments. Although, Pittsburgh's next opponent, the Cardinals, were hanging in there with the Ravens and lost to a last second field goal.
God, have one mediocre season and everyone thinks you're done for all eternity. Cincinnati went 8-8 last year, Carson Palmer didn't hit a Chrysler, didn't have an emergency appendectomy, and didn't suffer a second concussion, yet they have loads of people on their bandwagon.
Cheers!

Several reasons.
First, Big Ben is healthy. He was very hurt last year, and it really impacted his play. Now he is 100% healthy.
Second, schedule. Since their record was so bad last year, the NFL rewards them with a patsy schedule. While they have looked good, they have fattened up on two awful teams and one so-so one in San Fran today.
They may not be the world-beaters they look like now. Wait until they play somebody.
Third, this team wasn't that bad to begin with. The core of this team from the Super Bowl is still here. Last year was more of an anomoly. This team has a very solid foundation.
Lastly, it is the NFL! ANYTHING can happen year to year, and it is commonplace to see a team go from awful to playoffs the very next year.
Look at Green Bay's great start. Look at San Diego's awful one. That is the nature of the beast.
MAN,there are some big time Steeler kool-aid drinkers voting on the question! Looks like anyone who doesn't say "Steelers are now and always have been king of the world" gets a big fat thumbs down.
How sad.

Well end your blind hatred and it would make more sense. They didn't suck so bad last year. They had a top 10 offense AND defense. The problem was Ben's health issues, the concussion and appendectomy before the season. Then he started to look good again and got a second concussion when playing the Falcons. They won 6 of their last 8 and both losses were to the Ravens.

They have been good for awhile...last year had a bad start with the horrible accidents dealing with Big Ben. He is back to how he was from his Super Bowl days and the defense is still great. Steelers had one bad year, many teams do, but they haven't outright sucked for awhile.

Big news flash, nimrod. The Steelers have been consistently in the top third of the best teams in the NFL since the '70's. They haven't given up a 100yrs rushing in a few years, Big Ben's rating is over 100, Willie Parker had his third 100yd + game today, the defense has only given up 26pts so far. The Steelers don't rebuild, they just reload.GET USED TO IT!!!
Real sorry your team sucks!

first of all they have not played anyone. They beat cleveland, buffalo, and san francisco, 3 teams that will be drafting in the top 10. Now they get arizona. So they get to play cleveland twice and get to play the weak nfc west they have a very easy schedule. Let me know when they beat a real team.

The Browns, Bills, and 49ers suck basicly. Even though the 49ers were 2-0 they were 31st in total offensive yards...
