No, money can buy you material things. People with money can be happy, but it is just as easy for people without money to be happy.
I was travelling in Costa Rica, we stopped to get some fruit at a local stand. Across the street we could see these kids playing. They were dressed a bit shabby, some had shoes, others did not. Some had dirt on their face. All of them were having the most fun I have ever seen a kid have. They were taking turns swinging on a tire swing.
I have seen kids in America throwing a fit because they could not have another toy at the store. Money buys stuff..... I have heard of family's that spend hundreds of dollars on a party for their child. Could they possibly be having more fun than those kids I saw playing on that swing? No.
I am not so naive to think that if you are living on the street you can be happy, but to think that being rich is the answer to all of your problems, and will make you the happiest person in the world. That is the person that is living with their head in the clouds and needs to wake up to reality.

All depends if money is your God, then it can buy you happiness and/or love. But does love or happiness have a price? It shouldn't, should it? But all too many people put too much stock in money, whereas it's only fleeting. Make money, loose it, make money, loose it, mak.....you get the drift. Money can always be made again, real love and happiness is different though. If you can be poor and be happy with your partner all the same, then you have found something special. If you get paid for love, is it really love?

Happiness a derivative of Happy whose definition in the 10th edition Concise Oxford Dictionary is:-
Feeling or showing pleasure or contentment.
All people are different and to that extent the answer to your question could be yes or no.
Personally money would offer financial security and no more.
There are more important aspects to life that make me happy. My wife, family, friends and pets.
I don't understand Diamonds comment about terminal illness.
A person with terminal illness can still be happy whether rich or poor, as can a perfectly healthy person.
Happiness is defined by the individual and their own personal requirements necessary to achieve it.
Remember a good person with a lot of money can do a lot of good, whereas a bad person with a lot of money can do a lot of bad...

Can it buy happiness? Overall my answer is no. It would depend on what makes you happy though.
Real friends, would be hard to come by. It would be difficult to turn people down kindly when they ask for money. Not to mention some people would end up worse off financially, than before you granted them 50 thou, all of a sudden the only conversation you've got going with your friends is ,FEED ME!!! Blah, it would be hard not to get hardened. Therefore not happy...
On the flip side of that!
Not having to worry 'bout giving all your money away, as soon as you earn it, would be less stress.Less stress is good! I think people with money get board. Unless they have a good mind, to figure out good ways to spend their money.Ways to make this world a better place. Many people can't have power & not take advantage of it.
If you're not happy before you have money, you won't be happy after you've got it.

Yes in a way but what if desires fulfilled, leads only to another desire? Perhaps it is better that we should never be content. Happiness, says an old lesson, lies rather in achievement than in possession or satiation. The healthy man asks not so much for happiness as for an opportunity to exercise his capacities. And if he must pay the penalty of pain for this freedom and this power he makes the forfeit cheerfully. It is not to great a price. We need resistance to raise us, as it raises the airplane or the bird. We need obstacles against which to sharpen our strength and stimulate our growth. Life without tragedy would be unworthy of a man.
Thanks to your question. Have a wonderful day!

Nope - but poverty can buy you sadness.
And by the way, the correct quote from the Bible is
"Often misquoted as 'money is the root of all evil'. Originates in the Bible, Timothy 6:10 (King James Version):
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
Money's neutral. It's the LOVE of it that causes the problems.

You could get a lot farther on it with love than you could with happiness any day. Happiness isn't about things, it's about being at home with who you are, and if that's a dollar you're awful flat and green.
I've seen hard times and cold streets, lived on graveyard stew and the kindness of strangers, I've also sat at table with multi-millionaires who were less happy than most people I met on the down and out. Love is real, and while you can't buy it for yourself you can show it in the way you use your money.

No money only buys you choices. With more choices you have more freedom to do things that bring you pleasure - like travelling or whatever but no money doesn't buy you happiness.
