I need one that will be usable with my jump drive and one that is at least a little bit capable. Perhaps a celeron M or a pentium 4?

This is probably what you are looking for:

Look at these specs for $269.00:
Micron Transport T2000 - Pentium 4 Mobile 2.2 GHz - 512MB - 20GB Hdd - 14.1" LCD - DVD / CD-RW Combo - No Operating System - Grade B, upgrade to 1GB Ram for $42.00 based on their website info. I believe that meets your qualifications, but watch out for shipping charges, as that may exceed your price limitation.

Note: save some money and load Ubuntu with opensource software and avoid expensive stuff like Microsoft Office in preference of Open Office. Shameless plugging of an easy to use linux distro, I know what can I say.

Otherwise here's some other stuff:

Check out delloutlet.com, watch out for ebay; might as well be playing Russian roulette; given the number of associates I've seen get burned with ebay I stay far away from those too good to be true deals...pretty much everything on ebay; just my opinion. Also check out my links in my sources section. If you're not afraid of linux, check out the new ASUS linux laptop they offer (don't know if it's actually been released yet); it is under the $300.00 range; I plan on getting one of these.

Watch out for the Medison scam:

Also just Google $300.00 or less laptop should be a good start.

UPDATE: citrusmicro.com has pre-ordering; not sure if they are reputable reseller, do some home work. Also http://www.ncix.com/ a Canadian outlet is alleged to be offering the ASUS laptops end of this month sometime (unconfirmed). Good luck
