What I mean by saying "normally used as a noun use as an adjective" is like using the word "lipsticked" in this example....
a rowan like a lipsticked girl.

lipstick is normally a noun but by adding ed you change it to an adjective

What do you mean normally used as a noun. Words that are normally used as a noun normally don't have an adjective form.

The big sequoia tree seemed powerful like a horse.

well, a simile is a comparison using like or as. A noun is a person, place, or thing, and an adjective is a describing word. So if your question were to "compare a flower with a car" you might say

A rose is like an Elvis cadillac. (it's a very bad example, but...)
