Stress has a direct link on the hormone levels and thereby, ovulation. I have had patients who were in athletic training for marathons and due to the physical stress they put their body through they did not have cycles, and did not ovulate. I also had a patient who did not have normal cycles for the 4 years at Uni. Everyone is affected differently by stress.

If you are trying to conceive, the first measure is to relax. Don't try to force the issue as the stress with affect your cycle just as in some men having intercourse too frequently can cause lower sperm counts.

I usually have my patients monitor body temp, and use an ovulation kit to help indicate ovulation, then properly timed intercourse or insemination can be accomplished without increased stress.

You can definitely stop ovulation by increased stress. When your body is stressed, it sends a message that you are not capable of bearing a child at that point in time, therefore in an attempt to protect itself, your body does not ovulate. It is the same thing that happens to people with bulimia, anorexia, etc. Your body is only protecting you.

When you are stressed out, it affects your entire body - reproductive system included. When you are stressed, you can have late periods and yes that does mean not ovulating.
