The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill is one of the best public universities in the country. US News ranks it at #28.

It is an excellent choice.

The other UNC satellite campuses aren't quite as good.

Most likely, your college experience will lay groundwork for your career, not necessarily give you the skills to specialize in one field. As long as you attend a good university and get good grades, especially in your psychology major, you can then attend graduate school.. Graduate schools do not discern upon the merit of an undergraduate psyc programs b/c you learn the important skills such as those to become a counselor in your graduate program. I am currently looking to apply to grad schools and I have a psyc major and basically what is important is:
*good GPA (AT LEAST 3.0 or B average)
*good GPA in your major classes (all your psyc classes - get those grades as high as you can_
*assisting in graduate experiments - they will probably tell you this in all your undergrad classes and offer chances to be an assistant (this way, you get more experience, credit, and a letter of recommendation)
so for now, concentrate on getting into a good university that offers a variety of psyc classes and then worry about specialization your last 2 yrs of college when you are an upperclassman and closer to graduate school.

GOOD LUCK! its great that you are thinking ahead! :)
