because you can't feel sad if you've never felt happy and vice versa.
sometimes when you're going through rough times it feels good to be sad and let it all out rather then acting happy and keeping everything bottled up.

I question the analysis. Sadness may be comfortable and familiar, but in and of itself it is a contradiction that sadness would provide a positive emotional state. The part that is likely to feel good is the desire to think which brings about sad thoughts.
If sadness feels good then the individual is not wanting to be happy. As a self-punishment, there may be some "good" in preventing the self from being happy. If one believes that they don't deserve to be happy, feeling sad might work for them.

Extremes for a long time feel opposite of what they're supposed to be. For example, 2 much happiness = sad person.

Sadness is a part of our lives.sadness is temporal, we overcome it by turning into a happy moments.Indeed this is the time when we feel good.everything in this life should be well balanced, when there is sadness there is happiness. We are being renewed each time we stumbled, we become stronger and we are ready to face another rise and fall that are coming our way.
No one is ever experienced happiness alone. It is a pervert of sadness.
Life is imperfect.
