I feel I am being taken advantage of by some "friends " when they do a favor for me. I never charge my friends when I do favors for them. I give free haircuts and let friends use some of my things. I wouldn't dream of charging friends, but some people do What do you think? Am I being taken advantage of ?

Should we get different friends or not be so generous ! I am upset but my husband thinks it's no big deal!

I think it depends on the favor and how well you know the person. If it is your best friend, then you shouldn't charge her. If it is someone you don't know too well, then there isn't a problem with charging.

Also, if your friend always charges you then you should do the same.

Well it does depend on the extent of the favors. For example, if your friend is a mechanic and is totally repairing your car, it would seem polite for the friend to offer some sort of reimbursement. But for favors of lower values or that aren't as financially burdening, I don't think friends should necessarily charge one another. Friendships are about helping one another, and if you have a skill (like hair cutting) that you offer to your friends, it would only seem fair and right that your friends do w/e favor they are capable of and you're in need of, for you in return.
Some people however are cheap/stingy and you have to learn how to deal with different friends. They might not be taking advantage of you, but you can't be so generous with friends who won't be as generous back, or you can be left feeling used or unappreciated. Be polite, do what you can, but don't allow yourself to be taken advantage of if your friend isn't willing to do the same things for you.
Take care.

If Im your "friend" the first 2 haircuts are ok to be free. But when they are always getting them for free, then we have some problems. Friends need to help each other not have all their haircuts for free only because were friends. If it bothers you so much tell them something. Your true friends will undestand and help you out.

well......... sounds to me like your hubby doesn't mind being taken advantage of..... if that is the case, I guess when he has lost enough money trying to buy friendships , I guess those 'friends' will be toast...... until that happens, sounds like your going to be throwing money down the rabbit hole....... can I borrow some?......... now, on your addition, you say, you borrowed a friend money, does that mean that you Lent a friend this money, or you borrowed the money...........

Depends on the favor and who it is.

Not If you
" wouldn't dream of charging them ".

You get what you ask for.
And your case, don't get.
