I know that what happened with slavery and oppression are dispicable but....?

would black people rather be back in Africa starving to death and dying of diseases under a facist government? At least in the USA there is opportunity and democracy. Im not saying that all of our privaleges outweigh the horrible and disgusting past.... but thats something ive always wondered... like an inner struggle... did all of this actually turn out to be better for african americand than staying in africa?

I believe many blacks understand they are better off in the USA, but they are also resentful of how they came to be here in the first place and it is not always understood that black tribal leaders sold their own people into slavery.
Africa is not an easy place to live these days, but if any of them truly wanted to be there, they can move there. Lincoln tried to send the freed slaves back to Africa but congress wouldn't allocate the funds.

This question has been asked so many times and I point out three things that usually shuts them up:

1.) To think that Africa would be exactly the same after something huge as the Europeans coming over is ludicrous. There was a book in which a boy went into the fast and all he did was kill a butterfly and the whole entire future was changed so you can't possibly think Africa would be the exact same way.

2.) There is a theory that if the Trans Atlantic slave trade had not taken place the world would be a better place

3.) One cannot say that Africans would not be over here. Africans had been to the Americas even before Christopher Columbus. Ever read his journal? There was ancient pottery found of an elephant in the Americas and where do elephants originate from?

Maybe Africa would not be so poor if Europeans and Americans had not and would not rape it.

Europeans have been beating down Africa for centuries. Look at today for all the money they pump into the wallets of crooked officials for all the diamonds and resources (that Africa hardly has enough of as it is) they take.

And no, if Europe had just left Africa alone they would have turned out better than this.

Or think of it like this. You take tribal village A and tell them that if they gather all the young men and women of tribal village B you will give them guns to take over tribal villages B,C,D and E. Now tribal village B is shot to hell because it has only old people and young kids. Tribal village C got the same deal as tribal village A and is now fighting with A to be boss after of course the took all the young men and women of tribal village D. See where the problems arise?

How many Africans do you people KNOW? I went to school with many African students, and many of you would be very jealous and probably real surprised to find that they came from nice homes with successful families and here they were in college in the US, something many of you native US people havent been able to accomplish be it for finances or inability or no desire, dont believe a Tarzan movie is what Africa is, that is a white man's bigoted idea of Africa, Africa is varied, made up of several different countries(a lot of you think Africa is just Africa), and there are wealthy people as well as poor just like here. Really, get educated. THANK YOU BAMN!!!!!

Uh..Wow are you talking about current times or what?
African's are just fine in the U.S. in current times. So I have no idea what you're talking about?
But if you're referring to the past, then you should take a look at the U.S in the past as well? What opportunity did the slaves have in America during those times? Not very many.
Besides the hunger and cannibalism and so on is what the Africans at that time knew and was used to.

The thing is though, if Black people would have stayed in Africa, there is no telling what could have become of the continent. Many inventions created by African-Americans would have been put to use in Africa before America. Therefore, there is a great possibility Africa would have been a minature or better America if there was no slavery. You see?

White ppl love to act like they saved black ppl from some horrible fate, when the truth of the matter is we would probably be better off in Africa.....the Africa BEFORE white ppl went over there and stole, pillaged, & destroyed the land.
Africans were living amongst themselves just fine prior to slavery. The were living peacefully with the land, & spiritually with the laws of nature.

You can't compare how Africa would've been to how it is now b/c white ppl have gone over there and made certain that even AFRICANS in their own land are oppressed & degraded. It wasn't enough for them to oppress their children, but they had to oppress the indigenous land as well.

You might say that AA's have an abundance of "privileges" in the US, but racism, degradation & oppression have emotionally, physically, & spiritually affected the black community. It has caused black ppl in general to take on a inferior attitude & self destructive behavior.

And many blacks would probably love to go "back" to Africa (even though they've never been), but why go someplace where you'll get the same treated as the US?....when whites LEAVE Africa, then maybe more black ppl will think about going "back".

I don't know what dated old history book Bamn has been using, but African tribes were at war with one another long before a white person set foot on the soil. Thy knew torture techniques slave masters could not even fathom.

The good people of the Carribbean , I'm sure, have no desire to be back in Africa.

The claim for reparations is premised on the false assumption that only whites have benefited from slavery. If slave labor created wealth for Americans, then obviously it has created wealth for black Americans as well, including the descendants of slaves. The GNP of black America is so large that it makes the African-American community the 10th most prosperous "nation" in the world. American blacks on average enjoy per capita incomes in the range of twenty to fifty times that of blacks living in any of the African nations from which they were taken.

No let her go on. Somebody will have to look bad so that their neighbour can look better. That has been the name of the game. There's no way it can be stopped. People have to find strategies of being able to live with themselves or their past.
