I have expressed my critical views on the Media, the public (including myself) and the Portuguese police with scant knowledge of the case. The presumption of the McCanns innocence needs to be maintained as well as the presumption of the police competence-but the media and gossips frequently disregard it when it suits. I’d suggest that in this sad case, it is worth making the extra effort to protect this right. What I dislike about this is all the bad judgements, either way, without the full facts in such a serious issue.

You are entitled to your opinions - it just annoys me that some people abuse Yahoo! ANSWERS to disseminate their views, instead of asking questions. Personally, I think it is correct that the Portuguese police keep quiet about everything as it avoids trial by media. I just wish the Portuguese police were far more competent.

Yes we should! As "The Internet Community" (Grand title I know but I can't think of a better way of putting it.), we are the last bastion of free speech and therefore there will be those who will follow the lines esposed by the "Sun" and the "Mirror". On the internet one is free to express an opinion. It's part of Democracy.
My own opinion is that the McCanns are guilty of negligence. I think that is well proven. They left three young children alone in a flat without a childminder/babysitter. I am a single dad with reponsibility for an 11 year old daughter. Sometimes I leave her alone for 20 minutes, but only when I know that there are people I trust watching over her. I do not have money for babysitters/childminders. The McCanns do. They fall somewhere between the categories of incompetent/negligent and murderers. Whatever transpires, it falls squarely on the shoulders of Mr and Mrs McCann.
You have kids? You look after them!

Kinkyboots, they obviously did do the child harm. They left her alone without reason. In a foreign country. With no supervision. Any poor people/single parents who can't afford babysitters and the like (unlike the McCanns!) will sympathise with that. On many occasions, I have to sit at home on my own, even if I have the money to go out, because I do not want to leave my child (11) alone in the house. At the very least the McCanns should admit their own culpability.

I think expressing opinions is what we are all gathered here at Q&A about. What I have a problem with is the morons who have made up their minds based on the rumors and gossip.

Yes the McCann's were guilty of leaving the kids alone but that does not, by any stretch of the imagination, make them killers.

Good grief, if that was the case, half of Milwaukee would be filled by killers. There are reported cases of kids left home alone all the time.

The facts, Ma'am, just the facts PLEASE!

I would love to find a website that discusses the case FACTS, know of any?

I have supported the McCanns from the start, even so I would take any evidence against them seriously; the trouble is there has not been a single scrap of evidence against the McCanns. It all came from the police liars and they dropped it all later, usually days later.

The problem is that some haters believe the police” evidence" even after the police have disassociated themselves from it. The hater cannot see that the police are using lies as bluff to scare the McCanns into a false "confession" for something they did not do.

I think all questions, comment, innuendo, squabbling, defamatory statements, theories, and all other such garbage that has been placed on Y/A and other Q & A boards should stop until something more concrete has been found or stated.

All else is just superficial nonsense and does nothing to help find this little girl and only causes animocity among people who use these boards for genuine Q & A .

if it's serious enough for the mccanns to employ a spokesman, lawyers, enlist the help of various family members & take the help offered by millionaires.
they are now reaching a stage where the people will split into 2 groups.
the ones that see the mccanns as victims, there's no truth in the suggestions of them being bad parents, they deserved a little Me Time to go socialise, quiz night, followed by wining & dining.
it's ok on holiday to let your hair down & forget about the kids for the night.
& the ones who can't for the life of them, see why the mccanns left their kids yards away from where they were, then scream foul play when it all went wrong!
the portugese police didn't stand a chance.
no matter what they did, the mccanns weren't happy.
they & their friends clammed up.
causing a stale-mate.
with no-one looking for madeline.
G & K visited the pope, then even left the area for some more ruddy me-time, once the police started making progress.
they jetted here there & everywhere.
for what?
where's madeline?
if you'd been doing your job of being GOOD parents, she'd still be with you wouldn't she?

Having an opinion is one thing, speculating is quite another.
It IS a sad case, you're right......if they are innocent of doing Maddie harm (as in actually killing her) then surely punishment has been enough & will continue to be so. What more could someone do to me than the knowledge that my behaviour had caused the death of my child.

I believe at the end of the day, even faced with facts, people will believe what they want to believe. It generally has nothing to do with the truth though.

If you apply the staying silent rule to this case then why not every other case too? Surely it means that people wouldn't be able to comment on any story as newspapers may report so called facts but at the same time none can be guaranteed accurate. If you go by this rule of thumb then you will find that every news report would go undiscussed and we would be resigned to talking about Eastenders and Big Brother. Life is filled with speculation, it's just a case of how good you are at guessing.

I absolutely, totally agree with you. Who are we to say
that this couple are guilty Yes, they shouldn't have left
their children alone. (I think they've got the message by now).
But all this speculation is getting we nowhere. It is a really
sad case and I think we should leave them alone.
I would rather be wrong about their innocence, than the other way around. Because I am sure, a lot of people would have
them hung, drawn and quartered by now!! Minxy.
