Check with the Better Business Bureau, call the company directly even if someone tells you about them. Be sure you understand how it all works before you sign on the dotted line.
I've been scammed before, but am working from home successfully now. I would be happy to share all the information with you if you are interested. Just send me an email if you are interested.
Good luck in your search!

I know of a great one. It changed my life!
Many think that our company is too good to be true. You can save money, earn money and help others in the process. You can do all this by working at home with no investment. This is 100% legitimate! No games. We are a new company that is honest and genuine. You won't find anything negative about this company. There is no other company like this!
This business is set up to harness the Power of the Internet - like no other!
And it's completely free. No strings attached. None.
I know you'll wonder where the 'catch' is - and there really isn't one. Except that this is not a 'get rich quick scheme.'
It's going to take some effort!
We are helping people who may need some extra money or who have been looking for a way to achieve financial freedom. This is the best and most honest program out there and it's free! It's not MLM and it's not an Affiliate program.
This is a special brand new concept. This company has only been up and running about 6 months (in the planning for 5 years) and is exploding! Macy's, Sears,Target, Circuit City , Apple iTunes, and (over 1000 stores) are participating in this venture which speaks to its legitimacy. Let me know if you want more info.

Most of them, not at all! For most companies, the Internet is just an avenue to their store or service, just like a regular building. Their actual business, itself, is something more standard, such as retail sales or services provided which require them to leave their computer and actually do the work outside.
Those that promise income for simply surfing the Internet, getting people to click on certain links, building your own business on the Internet, etc are problematic if not outright fraud.
For the remaining 'real' business offers concerning the Internet, you still have to approach them as you would any other investment. You have to decide whether it's worth the risk to bet the farm on it (and you may well be doing just that.) Even billionaires take hits on some days and lose large chunks of money.
And ask yourself, just how many legit businesses are available to minors?

I work for a new home based company that is 100% free and totally different. It's legitimate and not like anything else around. There is nothing to sell, no meetings, and all the tools are free. It's an honest company with good morals and we are trying to help everyone who wants to work at home and make some extra money. Again it's free so you have nothing to lose. It is possible to work for an honest company, at home with no cost. No matter what people may say. Let me know if you want more info.

Ever heard of Agloco? Agloco is a global economic network incorporated under the laws of Hong Kong and growing fast recently. Surfing the internet for 5 hours a month, you can get paid estimated $150. After sign up, you download the free viewbar software, a tool of saving time on your account, and enjoy surfing the net as usual. Simple and flexible work. The time will be exchanged for cash. To make more money, it depends on your effort how many friends you refer and how much time you are given by them(maximum 1.2 hours for each). Agloco has the referral system in order to build the community bigger and faster. The bigger the community grow, the more money you make. People who have joined Agloco, including me, believe that Agloco will be the revolution of the internet. Agloco never asks you to pay or buy anything and sells your personal information which means NO RISK at all and nothing to lose. Free to join, no fees ever required, no investment, and no need of credit card and specific career. When the beta open period is finished soon, the payment will be given once a month. If you are interested, click the source link that explains how the system of Agloco works in detail.

Easy.
First, define your goals.
Why do you want a home based business?
How much money do you want to make or how much time to you want to save?
What are you willing to give up to reach these goals?
etc...etc....etc.
This will give you a framework to start evaluating opportunities and will eliminate 95% of them. Especially, those with huge upfront investments, inventory or deliveries (unless that's what you're looking for).
Next, do some homework. Most home based opportunities are network marketing based. Learn how to be successful at this type of business BEFORE starting one (see the 7 Great Lies of Network Marketing at my homepage http://www.chrisandpatricia.com/). It doesn't take that much time, just a little knowledge and practices. I learned this the hard and long way. Don't do the same. Now, start talking to people who have opportunities you've identified as potentials. BUILD A RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM FIRST. This is key. Try before you buy and use your goals to determine if your being successful or not.

Hi! I have my own home business which you can check out at http://www.cloudlandcandles.com. This was a good fit for me and allows me to produce an income from home. Finding one that's legitimate? Do some investigating for sure as many people are just out to get your money. If you have to pay just to receive info move on. Also avoid the $10,000 in 2 months hype. Legitimate BUSINESSES take time to build.
