Taxpayers benefiting????

Did you just come up with that assessment out of the thin blue air? Do you think you know something that other taxpayers do no not know? Are you saying this because your taxes have gotten lower? My only assessment that u you may think that taxes will be lower because of this was war is that it is a Republican president who is the one who is instigating this whole mess and he is not going to put the burden on other shoulders of taxpayers just "adding it the our tab for national debt."

This war is actually ruining the US taxpayers, i.e. those people that are NOT rich enough to afford expensive tax advisers so they pay less tax than their cleaning lady.

Do you think it is a coincidence that the dollar is so weak?
Foreign investors just don't like what's going on and invest somewhere else. The enormous debt will have to be paid back eventually, and the weaker the dollar, the harder it will be. I'm Irish, and one profligate gouvernment in the 70s managed to impoverish our country for decades.

As for the myth that so many here seem to believe, i.e. that the war in Iraq is protecting the US citizens at home - this war is the best recruitment instrument for terrorists that they could wish for.

It;s not. Not this taxpayer anyway. We get bombed by Osama Bin Laden from Afghanistan and we attack Iraq. I am told by the president and the vice president there is a war on terror. But then we let everyone that can hobble across the border from Mexico come here and then we want to put them all down as guest workers for the big business. I don't think just Mexicans are coming across that border. I mean Osama bin Laden is pretty smart huh? He bombs the US no one goes after him. Don't you think he knows about that border. How to cross it? Sine no one went after him maybe he might do something again. Maybe he might come across the Mexican border. We don't know who is crossing there and could care less. Just as long as they are willing to work for $5 or less an hour. I pay more for gas. I pay more for my house payment. I pay more for everything. What am I getting in return? The streets I drive on are more potholes than streets. Bridges falling. A president refusing to even address these concerns. I could probably type for another week so I will cut it here the war in Iraq is doing nothing for nobody I know. Iraq is a civil with three factions inside fighting each other. maybe they need to get taking over by someone else or get along.

Defense contractors generate thousands of new jobs during times of war, pay high dollar salaries and employ hundreds of thousands of American workers who in turn pay taxes on what is earned.

Regardless of the public's complaints, the rate of pay incurred by our armed services rises dramatically during times of war and the chance to go abroad is welcomed by many for just this reason. These soldiers pay taxes also.

Oil companies (who have always been wrongly demonized among the media and public) have paid 2.2 trillion dollars in taxes over the past 25 years alone and this rate of taxation will continue to be exacted upon any incoming Iraqi oil.

I am sure that there are other benefits that those who found it trendy and popular to follow suit in posting, 'There are none.' are simply choosing to ignore.

Wow reading the answers before me it surprises me how many people honestly believe the sh*t that Bush says. Fighting in Iraq doesn't in any way protect us. The terrorists in Iraq would be here if they really wanted to be. What are we doing particularly to prevent them from coming here in fighting in Iraq? Nothing they obviously aren't trapped there they could go to some other country and get to America if they wanted to and your fooling yourself to think otherwise. We need to keep an eye within the country and fight an unconventional war to be safe from terrorism. What we need to do is reach out to other nations that could be breeding grounds for terrorists and assist them in eliminating that element and creating an environment that would lead people away from terrorism and into productive society instead. People who are poor and desperate are obviously going to have a lot less reason to live and much more reason to want to lash out. We need to lessen those factors rather than go to war and add to the problem.

Well, the theory is:

Stable Iraq
Stable Middle East
Stable Oil Supply
Stable Economy
Happy Taxpayer.

What Bush failed to account for is the tenacious and vicious opposition from the.....

....ah Democrats.

the government knows better how to use your earned income than you do, so the more they take from you to support everything from health care plans to a host of seemingly ridiculous projects, the better.

however, concerning the war in Iraq, to eventually establish perhaps a dozen permanent bases there will be cheaper than the alternative.

Its not. But it's benefiting Bush and Cheney b/c they own the ammo company that supplies America with the weapons and ammo, which they are making trillions of dollars off of.
