I make a point of treating others just as they treat me. If they're being a jerk, I'll give it right back. If they wanna play nice, I can do that, too!

Be civil.
And don't talk about them behind their back. Let me tell you why: if others perceive you as being two-faced, they may actually wonder what you're saying about THEM behind THEIR backs. All of a sudden, you'll find that many people keep you at arm's length because you're not sincere.
You don't have to go out of your way to be mean to people you don't like. Simply tolerate them and avoid their company as much as possible.

I try to find a mid-point. I'm not particularly nice to them, but I'm not mean either. I just make it clear that I can take them or leave them. But that's not usually a problem, because I just stay away from them.

I'm civil if I see them in public. I don't bother with gossip or backstabbing, I've been on the bad side of that kind of stuff and it isn't fun.
Mostly I hope never to see or hear about them at all.

Personally, I just make certain they know that I want nothing to do with them. I am blatantly honest with them about my dislike for them.
