Do you believe this advice

In what context?

In response to what situation?

Miss Manners is fond of saying (to those who don't know how to turn down another piece of pie, or a drink, or something like that) "Just say 'No, thank you.'" which is good advice.

That is, there are a lot of people who don't seem to realize that saying "no" when you want to and have the right to, is perfectly OK. (When someone wants a favor that you don't want to perform, for instance. Or, in general, wants you to do something that you have no obligation to do and don't want to do -- you have the right to say "No.")

Thus, I have often, on this site, used that slogan.

When it's a case of something that isn't as simple as Just Saying No, then the advice is silly.

It makes a really worthless response to the problem of drug abuse, as we've all seen (and as all sane people thought when it was proposed as a solution).

Sometimes things aren't that simple.

Yes, because the watering down of choice, responsibility and a thought process has gotten more young people in trouble than anything else.

As for me, I gotta have a replacement for whatever it is I'm denying myself. Most of the time I could find an acceptable alternative.

.....in many instances yes I do believe in "just say no." If I didnt subscribe to saying no.....I would be taken in too many directions in my weekly life and would surely reach the meltdown stage!

I think that before we say "no" or "yes", we should have enough info to form an educated opinion on the situation.
