Religion plays the role of a force against rational thinking and logical judgement. With respect to republic systems of government, it forms a reason why many people vote for conservative, traditionalist parties despite the evidence showing that libertarian parties make way more sense. It is also a useful tool for a corrupt government in order to keep its citizens ignorant so that they go on voting for corrupt parties in the future in a vicious cycle towards George Orwell's 1984.

There should be no role for religion in politics. God does not like what man has done with religion. Religion is about helping people, being a good person and doing the right thing. When you become a religious politician then somehow helping others become taking over the word. I think God wants religious people to be good people and do the right thing. Not take over countries.

Religion and the belief in the supernatural is a trait of primitive people. In a society of educated/enlightened people we live in the here and now.

Democracy is might makes right -- rule by the mob (majority) based on whichever group has more people.
Religion is a way of organizing and motivating people -- and if you can get people organized and motivated, then they can become a majority -- and thus impose their beliefs on the minority by force of numbers.
