EXACTLY!! I do NOT have health care, and no, I don't think it's everyone else's responsibility to see that I do get it. I don't have dental, either, nor vision coverage, and I need dental work and glasses. It's not the government's nor anyone else's responsibility to see that I get free insurance.

It is far cheaper to do preventive care than have people with no insurance go through the emergency room. Also with everyone on one plan we limit the profits of insurance companies. Right now even hard working people see their healthcare cost raise. The job I work on I started out paying nothing 15 years later I am paying $300 out of my check a month plus $10 prescriptions and $20 Dr visit. Some say inflation I say greed. I think at the very least if we change healthcare to help people and not the insurance company then it would be a good thing.

They would be paying for their own health care. Every American who works pays into the system and then receives from the system, an assurance of at least basic care to all citizens. each worker pays each has the assurance. It just like you have now but larger group and better rates, cheaper medicine due to massive buying power.

Some of these answers are just plain vicious. Especially from the so called right wing compassionate conservatives.
What they are saying is go crawl into a hole and die.
Jesus was a liberal. He was about helping the poor.
Health care is not a right, correct. But it is expensive and it is run for profit only.
And if you don't have the resources to pay these high insurance premiums?
TOUGH.

Everyone shares the burden. It's called "shared risk", the basic principle insurance is based on. Everyone needs proper medical care, theres no getting around it. Unless of course, you prefer the scenario of children dying of easily treatable diseases simply for lack of medical care. What do you care more about, an extra couple feet of boat or a bigger plasma TV, or living in a healthy society?

I dont know where people have gotten the idea that people have a right to health care. I have catrostrophic illness coverage and thats all. I dont go to the doc everytime i get the sniffles and I take antibiotics as a last resort. The only people I would consider paying for their health care are the elderly who cant work and the handicapped who are eligable for social security disability. I think people should work as long as they can, they'll stay healthier that way. my grandfather worked until the day he died at 82 and he was extreamly healthy.

They shouldn't. Every citizen in this country has the responsibility to provide for their own health care. What the boneheads do not realize is that the level of care will decrease as the price keeps going up. I don't know how we can get this through their thick skulls. It is on record with any government medical program both here and abroad.

We shouldn't. The elderly and disabled that cannot work need to be taken care of, other than that...everyone should be hard working taxpayers and pay for their own darn healthcare!

The question is - will hardworking tax payers be able to afford their own?
Someday you are going to die... just like every other person in the world... who will foot that bill if you can't pay it?
The answer has to be either
a) your kids
b) some rich guys (via taxes)
c) other insurance payers (via higher premiums)
Insurance companies are making BILLIONS off of hardworking tax payers in case you didn't know...

generally we are not responsible for taking care of everyone elses needs, that is their responsiblity and it is on the state and local level those issues can be taken care. second those issues can be taken care of on the medical level, they can have special funds to help those who can't afford it (oh wait they already do, forgot, oh wait why arn't they using it for the poor already?) why did my brother have to pay his medical bill when he was at poverty level? they made him make payments, now that was a crock! it came to thousands of dollars.
No this idea of funding all these programs of medical care under the safty guise is a socialist ideology that others are responsible through force to care for others basically your money doens't all belong to you but belongs to the community. we benefit ourselves if we help others the trouble is it is not voluntary and the money is misused on the fed level. it would be better to deal with this on state or local levels. and it would be better to have special funds set up for that purpose.
each person must carry his own load. giving to help others with their burdens is to be based on love not forced thorough coercion.
anyhow if they desire to tax us for that purpose I would rather it be on state level not federal level make the feds stay out of the states business and stop taxing us for things we can take care of ourselves..
