If Ohio State goes undefeated in the Big Ten, what are the chances of them playing in the National Championship game?

Observers hardily have maligned the Big Ten largely because of early-season woes in Ann Arbor.

The current USA Today poll however includes five conference teams among its Top 25: Ohio State Wisconsin Purdue Michigan State and Penn State though Michigan State for example has racked up a 4-0 record against teams such as Notre Dame that pack about as much muscle as Spongebob Squarepants!

Five time World Champion Handicapper and Professional Handicappers League Commissioner Brian Gabrielle has four Big Ten teams among the leading 25 and drops Penn State all the way down to 41st.

He has Michigan State 25th and Michigan 52nd in contrast Zukiel still regards UM as a Top 5 team.

They still can win the Big 10 championship still smell the roses Zukiel said.

Gabrielle has Ohio State ranked fifth nationally Wisconsin ninth and Purdue 17th.

This The BGS Power Ratings takes everything into account not just the results of one game i.e. Michigan over Penn St but all games against all opponents Gabrielle said.

I know Michigan fans are frustrated and looking for something to grab on to but it doesnt help Michigan that Penn State is not a Top 25 team in The BGS Power Ratings so the win really loses luster.

East Coast PHL handicapper Bill Fishman still gives the Wolverines a shot at a cherished Big Ten championship.

I feel Michigan is still a very talented team and one that should be reckoned with for the Big Ten title Fishman said.

Michigan was my top play this week as a dog win over Penn State.

Im still not a huge fan of the Big Ten but Ohio State is quick and talented on defense.

Boyd believes uncertainty surrounding the Midwest loop traditionally among the countrys strongest could actually prove to be a boon as each game takes on added significance.

Theres no doubt the Big Ten is down. he said.

Michigan did what it needed to do to stay in the hunt by taking care of business at home against the Lions.

That win gets them believing again without a doubt.

Wisconsin or Ohio State appears to have the inside track.

Right now it looks like its going to be a sloppy ride.

I dont see anyone running the table and home field advantage in big matchups will be crucial.

If they are the only undefeated team at the end of the year, maybe. Don't count on it. Don't count on them being undefeated at the end of the year either. State College is a loud place to be, and Ohio States offense has not been terribly impressive. The win against WashU is looking less than impressive.

They have to play at Purdue (not so bad) at Penn State (ouch) and at Michigan (can Ohio St run the spread?)
We'll see what happens as the season unfolds...

It depends, which is the problem with the current set-up. Right now, USC and LSU are on top of the polls. Therefore, it's their spots to lose in the national championship game. I would think Florida is in the same position. If two of those three schools don't lose, there's not much Ohio State can do. (LSU and Florida both come out of the SEC, so one has to lose a game.)

I'm a believer in the "and one" system -- make two bowl games semifinals on Jan. 1, and have the winners play an extra game for the national championship.

I don't see them going undefeated. They have played pretty much cupcakes up to this point. They've lost too much on offense for them to get through undefeated and if they do go undefeated don't think that voters won't remeber how Ohio State's defense got torched last year by Florida.

It is realistic for them to win the Big Ten this year, but I don't think they have enough on offense to go undefeated or win a national title.

I'm a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan.

If they go undefeated they have a 90% chance to the national championship, but it looks like they have an easy schedule this year so if any other 2 teams go undefeated that are ranked in front of them, buckeyes will not go to the National Championship.

If two other BCS schools go undefeated then none, the BIG 10 is really weak this year. If they are the only undefeated team left which is possible, then I would say yes they will go to the championship but then like all BIG 10 schools they will be torched by a spread offense.

well OSU fans were so happy that App St and Oregon beat Michigan they failed to realize that they might as well have beaten OSU.. those games crucified what little Strength OSU had on their Schedule.. if any two of the following go undefeated OSU is out.. W. Virginia, USC, LSU, Florida, Oklahoma.. so I'd start praying for some help from other schools right now

Seeing as how they performed last year and the overall outlook of the Big Ten, they probably wouldn't get in.
