Sure, most children here will say JK, but the truth is Roald Dahl beats the pants off both of them. Have you read some of his bizarre adult work? The man was a genius. Oh, by the way ... we share the same birthday, too. What is it about Virgo's being evil geniuses?? Pax - C

I've never read Rowling. I kinda stumbled through The Hobbit and about halfway into The Fellowship of the Ring before running out of gas. Dahl however is tremendous. All of his stuff--but especially his wicked wicked Hitchcockian (or is that Woolrichian?--or even Collierian?) short stories. In particular the thing about the antique furniture collector--or the one about the middle-aged guy who comes across someone who was a sadist to him when he was fagging at a British boarding school (and then at the end he finds out it's a different guy)--or the thing about the guy conniving to try to win the distance pool on an ocean liner. All deliciously droll! Plus he was married to actress Patricia Neal (and nursed her after her stroke).

I suspect the majority of your answers will be for Rowling because she is the main stream author of the day. However, taking nothing away from her, I think she runs a distant second to Tolkien who was a pioneer of fantasy in his time. So many books use his same characters, his same scenarios. Terry Brooks and the Shannarah series is a prime example. Tolkien spent most of his life developing middle earth. Languages, poems, songs. It is a life work that in my opinion is second to none.

Hmm... that's stressful because of the fact they the two are mind-blowing authors, yet they the two had their cases in case you already know what I propose. Tolkien become earlier Rowling and so throughout that factor he become for sure on good. Rowlings has for sure taking on and is extra favourite because of the fact her books are nonetheless making movies. different than that they are great authors however!

Tolkien. I've never read Dahl and I enjoy Rowling but Tolkien has stood the test of time.

Tolkien, for his intensive world-building that far surpasses JK Rowling's in my opinion and some of the most evocative writing I have seen so far.

JK Rowling is next, for introducing me to fantasy. Excellent world-building, nice characters.

Roald Dahl is last, but I like his books, especially Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I have only read books by Roald Dahl so I guess I would have to choose him. J.K is said to have the biggest following.

J.K. Rowling...she was homeless before she wrote Harry Potter. She sat in a coffee shop all day and the idea just came to her. After she got her first book published, she bought a house, got married, and had a baby. I think that's just great for someone who was on the streets to go after what they want and be able to live a successful, happy life.
