No. We also learn by doing things well.

This idea has an interesting history.

On the face of it, failure is a pure no-no, right? Who wants to fail? It's unpleasant, and mean that things did not go well.

But that doesn't mean that it's purely bad.

So people took to pointing out that it's possible to fail, and learn from it, and be, in some ways better off for it. It's possible to learn from having failed at something, so you can do better next time.

It's also possible to learn how to cope with failure, which is an unavoidable part of life. (I don't mean that everyone always fails at everything, but that it's impossible to live without now and then failing at something.)

So, to make people feel better after a failure, and to buck up people who are afraid to try things because they fear failing, people started pointing out that failure isn't the end of the world, in fact, you can learn from the experience.

Then some people got carried away, and started making it sound as though failing is the Very Best Thing there is, and over-stating the case, implying that it's ONLY through failure that anyone ever learns anything.

This is bildge; as much so as the idea that any failure is catastrophe.

It also misses the point that the point of doing something is to actually succeed at it.

If you only, say, build houses in order to fail at house-building, then no one would ever have shelter.

A person can learn a lot by doing things well, including how to do that thing well, and what it means to do things well.

It's also handy in other ways (such as making things that don't immediately fall apart).

Be very careful about using 'always' 'never' 'only' and the like. There's often a flip-side.

We learn by being able to imagine the concept of how certain things work. For example, certain etiquette or how to treat people are not natural things. We learn by seeing how others are treated.

We learn when people tell us concepts through what they say.

We learn from reading.

Some people learn from themselves by merely comparing and analyzing situations.

I know a lot of times, at my work, after doing a project, people get together and discuss how to make things better.

All these all tie into the individual(s) being able to see different concepts.

When we fail, it is like plugging in the wrong numbers into variables in a mathematical formula and realizing that your answer is wrong. Because you know that you are wrong, it gives you a better idea of what is right.

We learn by failing if we realize we've failed. We also learn from the experience of others. Experience is a great teacher.

I believe it was Thomas Edison who said something like, " I haven't failed. I have found 1,000 ways that don't work. " (something like that).

Well, you CAN learn by trying and failing. But you can avoid the "school of hard kncks" if you want to, and learn by listening, reading, observing, etc.

Smart people learn from their mistakes; Wise people learn from others'. I'm not quite sure who said that, but it's stuck with me since high school. You will never fully comprehend something without experiencing it personally in my opinion.

Very much so in the same way as we learn by our mistakes. You also have to experience failure to know what success is.

There is no such thing as failure, only lessons you can learn, you can also learn from other people's lessons or ofcource you can accidently do something right and observe that and keep doing that behaviour

No, we can learn from succeeding too.
We can also learn from the successes & failures of others.
There isn't enough time to make all the mistakes ourselves.
