No. I turn it off and then I turn off the power strip. In fact, during the day when I am not using it, I shut it off. Better for the environment.

Yes. I run a program called Folding at Home which calculates difficult medical and scientific data sets to help cure major diseases.

It runs in the background and you'd never know it was running if someone were to install it on your desktop (Well, I'm sure the increase in cpu fan noise would clue you into something).

No. They say you should treat the computer like any other appliance and turn it off when not in use. Plus it's a good idea to save on energy these days.

usually if i'm not at the computer using it i shut it down (or put it in hibernation to facilitate a quicker restart). but i may leave it on overnight or longer if I have it busy downloading lots of "stuff" (you just nevermind what stuff) or doing some lengthy file processing. in such cases i close the laptop (to shutoff the monitor -- or power off the external monitor -- there's no reason to keep the monitor on).

I have a laptop and cannot get out of the habit of slapping it shut when I'm done using it. So then I end up opening and closing it 100 times a day. As far as at night...its always closed when I'm not using it. :)

No, I turn my computer of at night because I'll be fast asleep & leaving it on when I'm not using it will increase the electricity bills & I don't want my parents to pay more when they don't need to.
