I have a 2001 Suzuki GSXR 1000. Here's the problem: Someone tried to steal it and cut the cord/wire that connects to the ignition. So I took it to a shop and they told me that I need to get an entire ignition switch because the cord is not sold alone and they can not repair it without a new ignition. Is this correct?? They are trying to charge me an arm and a leg to replace this one cord. That's all that is wrong with the bike. Is there anything else I can do to fix this...can I order just the cord or do I need the entire ignition switch replaced? Please help with this...I hope I explained the situation correctly. If you need more explanation to answer, please let me know. Thanks much!

It can be fixed like they sll said just solder the leads back together. Stagger you connections so you dont end up with a huge lump in the harness. If you can't do try to find someone that works on electronics. They could do easily.

As long as the wires left are long enough to splice to, it can be repaired cheaply and easily. If the wires were cut right at the box or switch it may be too difficult. One more suggestion for the splice, aside from staggering them in the harness - use heat shrink tubing to insulate the connections. The stuff with glue if you can find it. Tape will only seal for a time, and will not last. Corrosion will eat the connection, putting you worse off than when you started.

Unless the would-be thief munged the ignition switch itself, you should *not* need a replacement ingnition. The wires could be spliced to make the whole setup work as it should. Depending on the # of wires, it shouldn't be a project to fix them. For a permament fix, I'd go with a soldering iron to make the connection hold up.

It can be repaired, just solder an extra length of wire into the harness, you must use non acid solder. When it's fixed take it to the shop and show them, can't stand rip off shops.

Yeah, they're being jack-sses. You can go and buy a short length of wire, of the approximate width, at even somewhere like OSH, and solder it in. Be sure to use electrical tape to insulate your work.

u should beable to just rewire the ends together with some extra wire... if they are charging you a **** load tell them to screw themselves and get someone else. u could look up the ignition online and see what it costs. jsut google your biek type and ignition or go to a parts site and look it up

Like they say above, to wires tab togther, done.

Or loose the ignition altogether and get a remote starter.

Very bling.

Just what a person who cant spell " PLEASE " needs.
