It is possible on most systems to turn the fan on manually. Look for a switch on your control panel labled "Fan". It should have at least 2 positions, "Fan" and "Auto". Put it on "Auto" or "Off" unless you like it running to circulate the un-cooled air.

Possibly some units keep the fan on until the cooling coil warms a bit to extract all the cooling possible and save energy. It should shut down after a while unless you have set your thermostat setting to( fan on ) just set to( fan auto ) and it will cycle.

Did you turn off the fan as well? Most units have a seperate switch for the circulating fan.

Probably the circulating fan is independent.
It's used both for heating & cooling, & has a separate switch.

Check to see if you have a separate fan setting. You may have accidentally had that on and didn't know it.
