A Vstar 1300 is a nice bike and if thats what is going to make you happy then thats what you need to ride ,Its a lot of dough to spend on yourself so get what you want and not what someone else wants for you .

So your husband is a traditionalist (in Harley-speak), or as the rest of the world says; scared of performance! Water-cooled engines run better, make more horsepower (if they are of equal displacement/size), more fuel efficient, and (as previously stated) quieter... LOL, not sure why he would be opposed, unless he just wants a Harley. They are good bikes (the Harleys) if you like paying double, for half the technology... With the exception of the V-Rod (which is liquid-cooled) Harley has been making the same bikes since the 60's. And as such, have been been at the front of cruiser power contests...

Your bike, or hubby's?
Get yours. He can have his. One thing about motorcycles is we all have our personal preferences. Mine lead me to air-cooled twins. Vertical and V. However, I also liked my liquid cooled Yamaha. It also was a V-twin, it had no engine noise. It had more power than a similar air-cooled twin of the time.
My opinion?
Your bike, you pick.
His bike, he picks.

Water cooled is the way to go now. Soon all bikes will be liquid cooled. There is talk that the government is going to try to mandate it. They run cooler and last longer. They also have better fuel economy and less emisions than air cooled. Wondering what Harley is going to do though.

Water cooling is best, if you look at the best of the latest bikes they are all going to water cooling. Look at Harley's new V-Rod and all of Victory's V-Twins.

I'd say to either get the 1100 model ( http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/products/modelspecs/19/0/specs.aspx ) or to get him a Warrior ( http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/products/modelspecs/505/0/specs.aspx ). Both of these are air cooled. The 1100 model is obviously weaker than the 1300 model, and the Warrior is more powerful, so you should pick appropriately.
However, if you had the money to spend (and it WOULD be expensive), you could always customize it to use an air-cooled engine.
Good luck to you on your choice. Ride safe.

I live in Az, it gets 115 here is the summer. I wouldn't own anything BUT a water-cooled bike.

Your husband a Harley fan?
Seriously everything is better on a L/c motorcycle except they are a little more compex, and slightly heavier.

What's wrong with water cooled??? They last longer, have better fuel economy, make less noise. Is you hubby in the waking-everybody-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night business? Or is he looking for attention? Either case should disturb living hell out of you...
