I have succeed in international relations as a career. But, I decided that this career does make me happy. I have always been a creative person, and therefore, been thinking about working in the film industry. My question is then, can I somehow use my excellent CV to break into the industry. I was thinking about trying to use my vast global first hand knowledge to get in to documentaries. Have I just wasted my college degree? Are there good graduate programs for film school that I could get into without film experience. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

If you want to learn how to make documentaries or films you can try doing it yourself by creating a concept and going ahead with what you want. You can go to graduate school at a good film program but that will cost a lot of money besides needing (more than likely) needing a reel to be accepted into the program of a really good school.
Try doing one of the few week programs with New York Film Academy. They will teach at least the basics of filming and getting yourself together through on the job training in a way but with help.
