Yes, religion has become a prop trotted out ever election cycle to help convince us that candidates really care. The current crop of candidates can't stop telling us how religious and god fearing they are. But try nailing them down on a particular position, other than gay-bashing, and you'll get the usual double-talk. The recent passage in several states of so-called gay marriage bans shows the destructive nature of religion on freedom and the stupidity of voters. The religious define freedom by who they can deny it to.

The Mormons believe that as long as we accept Jesus Christ as our savior and try to keep the commandments, we will remain free, and protected from the rest of the world. It is also believed that America is a sacred land. And that Eden was on this continent. So to answer your question, our whole system was based upon Gods laws so that man can have his free agency. Because of this nation, and its principles, it has changed the entire world.

yes, otherwise religious leaders would hold the highest posts and justify their arguments as being holy and unquestionable.

People who say Bush does something like this have never heard of a real theocracy like Iran's Ayatollah or Saudi Arabia's Wahaabism

yes. but barely. only barely because it becomes an issue with conservatives since it goes against what most of us believe in. however politicians are still as reluctant as ever to reveal their religions.
